As a fitness enthusiast who never misses my daily workout, traveling can be a challenge. When I’m on the road for business or pleasure, keeping up my exercise routine isn’t always easy. However, with some strategic planning, it is possible.
I always start by doing research on the fitness options available near my hotel or accommodation. Look for nearby gyms, running trails, parks, hiking paths, cycling routes, yoga studios, and pool facilities. Searching online and asking the front desk for recommendations can uncover lots of options. I also use mobile apps to find everything from CrossFit boxes to Zumba classes in any city. Pack workout clothes and shoes that are versatile and suited to different environments.
When it comes to nutrition, I aim to get a mini fridge and microwave in my hotel room. This allows me to stock up on healthy groceries and whip up simple meals. Scope out the closest supermarket or farmer’s market when you arrive. Bring Tupperware containers and resealable bags to carry snacks and prepped food on the go. Seek out restaurants with wholesome fare or cuisines that offer lighter options.
While traveling disrupts my normal routine, staying active and eating well makes me feel grounded and centered when I’m on the move. I don’t obsess about sticking to my exact workout regimen if circumstances don’t allow it. Being flexible with swimming instead of running or taking a studio class instead of lifting weights works fine. Consistency is key, so I focus on maintaining some form of exercise daily. With resourcefulness and commitment, travelers can stay fit and energized anywhere in the world.
